Cisco's Linksys division, along with D-Link and Niveus Media today announced a handful of new HD home media extenders with bundled wireless-N technology, extended video format support, and support for Internet TV Beta.
The Cisco/Linksys DMA2200 Digital Media Center Extender with DVD Player gives users access to their HD content from anywhere in the house with 5.1 audio and one remote control. The Linksys DMA2100 Digital Media Center Extender will also support WMC functionality although without an optical drive. Both these devices will support WMV, DivX, and XVid formats and are expected to be available to U.S. consumers before the end of the year. Pricing hasn't yet been announced.
The D-Link DSM-750 MediaLounge Media Player comes in a slim 17-inch black aluminum design and connects to the home network using Ethernet or Wireless-N networking. The player will support WMV, DivX, and XVid formats and includes a USB 2.0 port for instant access to music, photos, and videos stored on removable USB flash drives or hard drives.
The Niveus Media Extender offers 1080p video, digital audio, and the same user interface found on the Niveus Media Center. Additionally, the Niveus Media Extender features the Niveus GlacierPassive Cooling system for cool and quiet performance.
All devices will support Internet TV, a new source of free streaming content. On Friday morning, September 28, 2007, United States Windows Media Extenders devices such as Xbox 360 and Windows Vista Media Center PCs will gain access to the beta release of Internet TV. This new feature will allow people to enjoy television and video content on their PCs and TV sets, without the need of a TV tuner in their PC and will be available to viewers for free. Internet TV's content lineup includes full-length music concerts from artists such as including Chris Cornell and Snoop Dogg; full episodes of TV shows such as "Arrested Development"; and news segments from MSNBC and sports clips from FOX Sports Television.
